New Unsettling Discovery: we are destroying our soil because we don't let it rest

A team at the University of Colorado have made an unsettling discovery. Crop farming across the Prairies since the late 19th Century has caused a collapse of the soil microbia that holds the ecosystem together.

Aquaponics is a sustainable way to grow food without soil and with less than 10% of the water used by traditional agriculture.

... the fiftieth year shall be a jubilee to you; do not sow and do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the untended vines. For it is a jubilee and is to be holy for you; eat only what is taken directly from the fields. (Lev 25:11-12) - In other words, let the soil rest.

six years you shall sow your land, and shall gather in the fruits thereof: But the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie still; that the poor of your people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner you shall deal with your vineyard, and with your olive garden. (Exodus 23: 10-11)
